Recipe: Homemade Mulled Syrup

This festive season is the perfect excuse to have everything mulled and as a non drinker, I LOVE making this syrup as I can add it to anything and I mean anything, to make it taste Christmassy.

It is easy to cook, makes your house smell incredible when you boo it and there is no need to infuse so it is a perfect last minute gift 🙂

All you need is:

250g Caster or granulated sugar

2 Oranges, halved

6 Whole cloves

6 Whole Allspice or 1 Tsp Ground

2 Cinnamon sticks

1/4 Whole nutmeg, freshly grated

Small peice of ginger Sliced

Place it all in a saucepan with 1 litre of water and simmer down until it is around 1/4 reduced (this took me about 1 hour) and voila! I then strain it through a muslin into a jug, ready to decant into preserving bottles or cute old drinks ones.

You can add it to a bottle of red wine and heat to make mulled wine or it also tastes amazing in warm apple juice, cider or even slipped into your morning porridge if you are feeling really jazzy.

Recipe origins from BBC Good Food Website though slightly tweaked.
